Le genre influe-t-il sur la décision financière ?

Abstract : This research aims to answer the question: "Does gender influence financial decisions?"It is based on a theoretical corpus which shows that decision-making is not a rational process but relies on numerous cognitive biases as well as on characteristics specific to each person. Among these characteristics, we are interested in the gender of individuals which will lead us to study gender stereotypes and the “Gender Shema Theory” as well as the tool associated with it to measure gender: the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) that we will mobilize in our empirical work. Our methodology is based on several robust protocols (protocol of Charness and Gneezy, 2004 and protocol of Holt and Laury, 2002) administered in the form of an experiment and coupled with the BSRI of Bem (1981). The results show that females take less risk than males in the Charness and Gneezy (2004) protocol and that males are risk averse in the same way as females in the protocol by Holt and Laury (2002). These results qualify those of research carried out previously with these same protocols and more particularly that of Holt and Laury (2002). But our results allow us to go further by observing the differences between genders and not the sexes of individuals. We thus observe that :- The female gender is risk averse in both protocols;- The androgynous genus is risk-loving both on the protocol of Charness and Gneezy (2004) and on that of Holt and Laury (2002);- The masculine gender likes risk but moderately in both protocols;- The undifferentiated gender is quite risk-phobic during the protocol of Charness and Gneezy (2004). It is also the least risk averse in Holt and Laury (2002). The results of the undifferentiated genre are therefore mixed. All these elements constitute a breakthrough because they go beyond analysis based on biological sex alone and therefore gender stereotypes. We thus bring in this doctoral research work a new approach in relation to the notion of risk and especially a different thinking approach based on gender in the face of risk.
