Le conte gbaya des échanges successifs : une analyse ethnolinguistique

Abstract : The author chose a tale of successive exchanges as it is recognized as a typical widespread theme and wanted to show that an ethnolinguistic analysis following Geneviève Calame-Griaule's methodological recommendations gives this tale its special status within the culture that created it. This paper concerns the Gbaya, a society with no hierarchy. Such an analysis enables us to question what tale type it may belong to. The heroe of the Gbaya tale is a child abandoned at birth whose quest ends when he finds his mother. The corpus, which is comprised of 4 versions recorded between 1970 and 2011, provides material to investigate both the narrator's point of view and the content of the tale. The author also makes a critical analysis of the scientific terms used to describe tales.
