La polysémie du terme nɛ̀ en gbaya 'bodoe

Abstract : Whereas grammaticalization and metaphor are generally conceived as processes that move from the concrete to the abstract, gbaya 'bodoe is exemplified by the author as a language the proceeds in the opposite direction. The word nɛ studied in this chapter appears in many different contexts. Through a minute study of the various syntactic structures where it ca be found, the author establishes the semantic values produced and defines the common underlying concept. The case of nɛ is a good example of the diversity of semantic values that can be produced by a single term.
