Грамматикализация tá ‘некий’ в лоома

Abstract : The study presents the overview of forms etymologycally related to the determinant tá ‘certain’ in Looma (South-Western Mande): determinants tánìgà ‘some’ and tágɔ́ ‘few’, adverb ‘a little bit’ and repetitive marker tá-. Semantics, morphology and morphonology of the resulted forms are analysed; special attention is paid to the possibility of pronominal use of the determinants; their alternative representation is proposed. Grammaticalization paths of the determinant tá ‘certain’ are discussed in the context of their typological and genetic counterparts. The author proposes a possible explanation for the semantic development of the least typical result of the grammaticalization of ‘certain’, a repetitive marker. The probable etymological relation of the determinant tá ‘certain’ to the numeral ‘one’ is discussed.
