Facteurs associés au risque de dépression chez les personnes âgées de 65 ans et plus à La Réunion en 2017

Abstract : Introduction : For several decades, the French population has been continuously growing and aging. This results in a number of public health issues affecting older adults, including depression. Although Réunion is still one of the youngest French departments, it is just as impacted by the aging of its population. Objectives : To determine the factors associated with the risk of depression among people aged 65 and over in Réunion. Method : We performed a descriptive cross-sectional study using data from the Gramoune Care survey carried out between 2016 and 2017 in which 45.83% of people were at risk of depression according to the results of the mini GDS test. We performed bivariate analyzes to determine the factors associated with this risk and calculated the prevalence ratios between the different response categories for each significantly associated factor. Results : The risk of depression is associated with demographic factors (age and female gender), factors related to health status (ongoing pathologies, impairment, stress, undernutrition, memory problems, low alcohol consumption), factors related to socio-economic conditions (isolation, low socio-economic level, poverty of social activities) and a feeling of altered quality of life. Conclusion : The risk of depression is associated with many factors. Appropriate care of those factors could reduce the risk of depression. This study could be followed by other longitudinal and multivariate studies to determine and target the main risk factors for depression in Réunion.
