L'influence de la culture éducative irlandaise sur l'enseignement/apprentissage du français dans les études supérieures en Irlande : le cas des étudiants de Trinity College Dublin

Abstract : This dissertation emphasize on educational culture in foreign language teaching and learning. This notion imply different ways to pass knowledges depending on the country(ies) in which each one has grown and evolved. Each one brings his own norms in the class environment, and the clash those to generate difficulties in learning. In teaching and learning situation we wonder if learners' educational culture favour foreign language learning or not. This research deals with oral and aural skills' teaching in higher education in Ireland and tries to bring to light Irish educational culture's influence on teaching. This writing and the thought rely on the observation of students from Trinity College Dublin (TCD). The analysis deals with curricula of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), one of whom comes from Ireland and some other from the department of French. The interviews made with learners show that pedagogical choices made by the country and TCD are very similar to those made by the CEFR. The analysis of the questionnaires and the interviews underlines some aspects of educational culture of studied people. For example, the students prefer oral activities to written activities. They also build a friendly relationship with their teachers, which is still respectful in Ireland. Finally, this study reveals some specific attitudes like encouragements that teachers give to their learners to make them pursue their efforts even if they feel some difficulties. Thus, this dissertation confirms that educational culture is impregnated in everyone and build our view of teaching and learning. So it is necessary to consider it.
