Comparaison des méthodes de calcul de la durée de vie de la volute d'une pompe

Abstract : A study was carried out on the volute of the primary pump of the refrigeration circuit of a 900 MW Nuclear Power Station. The aim is to prove that the pump can withstand the application of a thermal transient from 10°C to 180°C whilst remaining in service. Two calculation methods were used in order to validate and compare the results obtained. Furthermore, both an elastic and a plastic model of the volute were made. For the plastic model, three types of work hardening behaviour were analysed: isotropic, kinematic and “Chaboche” work hardening. Plastic shakedown is exhibited for all three material models; therefore, thermal ratchet is avoided. The final strain states resulting from each type of behaviour were also compared. The Chaboche model gives the smallest plastic strain (both cumulated and instantaneous.) The « Level A » criteria of the RCC-M (Design and Construction Rules for Materials in Pressurised Water Reactor nuclear power stations) are satisfied. It was proven that the volute avoids failure by rupture, thermal ratchet and fatigue. It was found that the lifetime and therefore, the usage factor of the volute are both acceptable; therefore, the lifetime can be prolonged according to the criteria used in this case study.
