Validation CFD axisymétrique de modèle zonal des écoulements gazeux de chambre de combustion de moteur diesel

Abstract : Detailed in-cylinder gas flows are required for enhancement of the comprehension of emissions generation in HSDI Diesel engines. To provide validation purpose data to a Zonal Gas Flow simulation program, axi-symmetric CFD models of combustion chambers have been built under steady state motored engine cycle conditions. Two modelling strategies directions have been considered for comparisons: A geometry simplification approach, from real combustion chamber shape, representing the bowl in piston features, to a bloc cylindrical shape model, has been achieved, together with the generation of various coarse and fine mesh resolutions to assess their sensitivity on the solution domain. The work has been performed in two stages: First, closed cycle models to investigate the main large scale structures inside the cylinder such as swirl solid body rotation, one dimension squish structure, tumble vortices and recirculation gas flows, and enhancement of turbulence levels up to the point of fuel injection. Numerical treatment of the walls boundary layers has been achieved at low computational cost. Then, idealized inlet ports as boundary conditions have been added to provide information of the swirl generated by the intake flows. Useful information data are provided, including heat transfer coefficients to the walls and recommendations on the combustion chamber geometry and discretisation practices are given for the implementation into the ZGF program.
