Importance de la dimension socioculturelle dans l'apprentissage du japonais langue étrangère en milieu exolingue

Abstract : Our work is located in the field of Japanese teaching as a foreign language in France, at a tertiary level. Our research is based on our own experience of teaching Japanese to beginners at the LANSAD department of Grenoble University. Recent work for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), including the cultural dimensions, are only beginning to be taken into account in the teaching of Japanese in Europe. Our motivation is to improve our Japanese class. We first conducted a preliminary survey which determined that the students were motivated primarily by Japanese culture. We then looked at the concepts of cultural dimensions in teaching a foreign language, including the Dabène axiological system and the work of Hymes, Byram and Zarate leading to the CEFR on communication, sociocultural and cross-cultural competencies. This reflection brought us to the definition of our research hypothesis "taking the socio-cultural dimension in teaching Japanese into account in France even at the beginner level is essential to communicate." To address this problem, we established an experiment by filming two sessions. We then selected extracts that have been transcribed and analyzed. We concluded that the teacher must establish a learning contract with the students. The teacher must also prepare explanations in advance for important socio-cultural concepts so as to meet the emerging questions of students. Furthermore, we managed to raise intercultural reflection among learners by giving them two similar dialogues in French and Japanese. They were brought to put themselves in the place of the Japanese and think about their own culture.
