La plume et l'orgueil. Noël Vallant (1632-1685), médecin des duchesses de Guise. Identité et écriture de soi dans les écrits du for privé

Abstract : Me scripto ergo sum. That is how one could define Noël Vallant's (1632-1685) writing activities among his whole life. He was a medicine doctor born in Vivarais and climbed, in Paris, the social ladder in an outstanding way. In his writings of the self, a livre de raison, a Mémoire de mes meubles and even in the mere compilation of letters, bills and various papers kept in the manuscripts department of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, he wrote his social level and his identity, for himself, maybe for others.
This value of identity holder, that one recognise in the writings of the self, will be discussed in three ways. The beginning of a new book, the material description of it and the kind of information written are crucial parts. But the social and material environment of the writer as they can be seen on the writings of the self will be matters of interest as well.
