Pouvoir, vérité, critique

Abstract : Power and truth are central to Foucault's work, and go through his reflexion as some of the main themes that guide the analysis of wester societies's evolution since the eighteenth century. More precisely, Foucault underlines the expanding of power technologie that draw on knowledge they produce about individuals. In this way, since the end of the classical age, power and truth (or knowledge) associate through forms that allow power to exercise more and more control over those who are governed. From this, the main way a critical reflexion would succeed in enlightning the contemporary forms of domination would be analysing historical configurations of power and knowledge. Power, truth and critics articulate in such a way to show how a particular conception of power, multifaced and scattered through all society's levels, and of truth, reduced to historical systemes of rules validating knowledge, is conditionning the possibility to criticize them. As this conception is always confronted with knowledges that implies power stakes. If power materializes into a disciplinary control combined with knowledges conveying norms, the critics one puts forward against it implies a concrete analysis of the conditions in which it plays with truth. The reflexion'stake thus consists in examinating the validity of the premises from which Foucault develops his analysis, namely the notions of power and truth, and finally the philosophical and critical legitimity it claims to.
