L'information du patient dans le dépistage du cancer de la prostate

Abstract : Background: The mass screening prostate cancer is controversial. It leaves room for individual screening to be accompanied with clear information on the subject. Our main objective was to assess knowledge level before realizing a PSA assay. The second objective was to identify the collected points by the patient requiring further information before the blood test. Methods: We have conducted a survey including various elements to be brought to the attention of the patient according to the AFU. This survey has been proposed by the receptionist in some Grenoble and its suburbs laboratories, to the men that came to make a PSA assay. No criterion was excluded. We have conducted a descriptive analysis. Results: We had participation of 112 patients from April 15, 2010 to May 15, 2010. 14.5% answered they didn't knew why the PSA assay had been prescribed. 66% have had correct answer with a score greater than or equal to 4 out of 6. 41% have perceived a lack of information and would like clarification around consequences of a positive result. Conclusion: This study has allowed us to show the place and the difficulty of patient information in our practice on controversial subject the screening prostate cancer.
