Évaluation de l'information des femmes enceintes sur l'équilibre alimentaire et le gain pondéral

Abstract : A balanced diet is an essential condition for a safe pregnancy and for the health of both the mother and the infant. Complications may occur due to excessive weight during the pregnancy, the delivery and the postpartum period as the new-born. In our study, we have questioned pregnant women in the maternity wards of Port-Royal and Saint Vincent de Paul. We measured the information received and knowledge of pregnant women in the ideal weight gain and the risks of an excessive weight gain. Despite multiple and diverse access to nutrition information, pregnant women have their own indicators. However, they often ignore what the ideal weight gain is and what the risks are if they gain more weight than the recommended ratio. Such information would help them to follow the advice given to them. The healthcare professional's duty is to give them top-quality information in due respect to the recommendations so that the woman has a complete understanding of the messages aimed at her well-being. Early and top-quality information from the first consultation is the guarantee of an optimal prevention, which is an essential function of the midwife.
