Il y a bilinguisme et bilinguisme : représentations du bilinguisme dans un échantillon d'enseignants de la région grenobloise

Abstract : This study deals with social representations of bilingualism (particularly that of children of immigrant background), in an educational context. Its quantitative approach is based on questionnaires presented to a sample of primary school teachers working in the Grenoble area. The results of this study show that it's only the teaching context (weather they work with a lot of children of immigrant background or not) that influenced the choice made by teachers between two definitions of bilingualism : that according to L.Bloomfield or to F.Grosjean. Teachers have a more stereotyped vision of bilingualism when they have in their class a lot of children of immigrant background. Not many of these children are considered to be bilingual even if their teachers declare that they can understand and speak their native language.
