Étude des freins à l'enseignement de l'effet placebo aux internes de médecine générale lors des stages ambulatoires

Abstract : The placebo effect (PE) is often used in general practice. We investigated constraints in its teaching for residents during field training courses by using a qualitative method and realized twelve individual interviews with university approved teachers of field training courses. The sources for these constraints are multiple. Some are connected to the teacher such as a gap in theoretical knowledge on the PE, an unawareness of its practice therefore not verbalized with the resident or ethical issues including a perceived nonconformity with Evidence Based Medicine. Others are linked to the residents and caused by their mainly hospital based training that troubles the teachers. Furthermore, some teachers are questioning the interest of teaching the PE. Nevertheless, teaching the PE provides an opportunity to query specific and non-specific effects of treatments, the quality of communication with the patient as well as the act of prescription and its impact.
