La contraception des jeunes adultes : information, utilisation et satisfaction : à partir d'une étude menée auprès de jeunes femmes de 18 à 25 ans

Abstract : Objective: There exists a paradox in France between the extensive coverage for female contraceptives and the significance in non-desired pregnancies. The object of this study is to study the contraceptive practices of young women ages 18 to 25 by evaluation of retrieved information, of their knowledge, their satisfaction of the contraceptive they are using as well as the adaption of the latter to their life style. Methods: Diffusion of an anonymous questionnaire to young women ages 18 to 25 in a variety of places: medical centers, centers for planning and family education, universities, formation centers and European Education Convention. Included in the study are young women ages 18 to 25, who are or are not on birth control, who are not pregnant and who have no plans of conceiving. Results and conclusion: The quasi majority of the women received information about contraception. However, it was incomplete concentrating mostly on the pill and condoms. The segment of population studied used mainly the pill (70.3%) and the condom (17.5%). The young women's knowledge was heterogeneous and no one method of contraception was completely mastered. The different methods of emergency contraceptive are unknown and their time efficiency underestimated. The users are satisfied of their method of contraceptive even though 40.7% would like to change their contraception. There is a lake of personalization of the prescription of contraceptives and the information delivered by the prescribers is incomplete.
