Le silence des femmes et l'art comme moyen d'expression dans La Leçon de Piano et Un Ange à ma Table (d'après l'oeuvre autobiographique de Janet Frame) de Jane Campion

Abstract : This research is a study of two movies directed by the New Zealander Jane Campion : The Piano and An Angel at my Table (from Janet Frame's Autobiography). Silence, language, mental illness, gender and artistic expressions are various themes studied through their filmic representation. Thanks to the female characters, we can see how silence is at first considered as a sign of weakness, then evolves in a way to fight the expectations linked to the cultural construction of gender. Art then becomes essential to express oneself and permits to exist in society.
