Les sages-femmes face à l'accouchement sous le secret

Abstract : Problem : Are midwives enough acquainted with the administrative side of secret childbirth to inform and respect the anonymity of these women? Objectives : The objectives of this dissertation are to highlight midwives' main difficulties to inform and to respect the anonymity of women giving birth in the secret, and therefore to evaluate the usefulness of a complementary tool to facilitate their care. Methods : For three months, a descriptive and prospective study by questionnaire was conducted with all midwives of six hospitals in the Yvelines department (France). The questionnaire inquired about midwives' knowledge regarding the legislation governing secret childbirth, their respect for the anonymity of these patients and their view on the utility of a complementary tool. Results and conclusion : The 91 responses received and exploited highlighted insufficient knowledge among the midwives : the rate of correct answers to knowledge questions was only 34,5%. These gaps relate to key points such as the period giving to woman to ask the secret of her childbirth. In addition, only 41,4% of midwives answer correctly to questions about the respect of anonymity. Midwives' difficulties concern both the respect for the woman's anonymity during her admission and the anonymization of the medical folder and the additional medical tests. Thus, to support midwives in their care of women giving birth in the secret, a booklet/file has been proposed in this dissertation.
