Les nouvelles compétences en matière de suivi gynécologique de prévention et de contraception comme témoin de l'évolution de la profession de sage-femme

Abstract : In 2009, the HPST law (Hospital, Patient, Health and Territories) granted new competencies to midwives, allowing them to provide gynecological follow-up to all women. This addressed a real need of public health, especially in the field of population's reproductive health. We submitted a study to midwives with a college diploma in this field in order to understand their motivations to practice these new competencies, the obstacle they have to cope with, and the impact of this evolution of the profession in the follow-up care of women. We showed that midwives' motivations were multiple but all turned into a considered professional project. Various obstacles existed, varying according to their way of working. We thus underlined the importance of a better recognition and the affirmation of this profession's autonomy in order to evolve towards a more global follow-up of patients and to place midwives as first aid in couple's reproductive health.
