Présentation clinique et radiologique de la tuberculose en Nouvelle-Calédonie‎ : étude descriptive rétrospective sur 9 ans

Abstract : Background: Tuberculosis is still a public health problem in New-Caledonia with an incidence twice as elevated as in French Metropole. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical and radiological caracteristics of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in New-Caledonia. Methods: 9 years retrospective study based on the review of medical records of all patients hospitalised in the pneumologic ward of Noumea territory's hospital for smear positive pulmonary tuberculosis. The diagnostic of pulmonary tuberculosis followed the detection of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis in the expectorations and was confirmed by microbiological cultures. Results:80 patients were studied (44 men, 30 women. 6 lost charts) with medium age of 47,9 years old. The Melanesian community was the most diagnosed (79,78%). The majority of patients came from a rural area (60,8 %). Cough was the symptom the most often found (89,2%) followed by weight loss (82,4%) and asthenia (79,7%). Physical respiratory exam was positive in 71,6% of patients. Radiological lesions were the most often bilateral (74,3%), in the upper lung (94,6%) parenchymatous (97%) and nodulous (68%). Conclusion: These results may permit the healthcare professional to detect pulmonary tuberculosis among the population more easily and improve patients care.
