Exalang 5/8 : analyse quantitative de la phonologie et création d'une épreuve d'expression morphosyntaxique

Abstract : Our two main goals were to design a new tool to test oral production skills and to initiate qualitative measurement of phonology with the existing Exalang 5/8 testing tool. Theoretical research helped us to better understand language assessment methods as well as the typical language development of children aged 5 to 8. Prior to our research, we checked the calibration of this test. We then designed a morphosyntactic test for assessing oral language skills. The protocol had been pre-tested on control children. At the same time, we did conduct qualitative measurement of these children’s phonological abilities. Our results revealed the efficiency of this new test. The persistence of deformations in the productions of the children in the age band studied was observed, with a decrease between the first and the third year of primary school. It consequently seems appropriate to modify this test by adding qualitative measurement of the phonological skills. Before being integrated to Exalang 5/8, this new test needs to be tested further on a larger and better distributed population as well as on children with speech-language disorders.
