Implication des troubles du langage oral dans l'acquisition des repères temporels (concept et langage)

Abstract : The purpose of this research is to study the link between the global development of temporality and language development. Two questionnaires were administered to 18 7- to 8-year old children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI) and to 104 6 to 10 years old unselected children from primary school: the TKIC, designed by Labrell et Dellatollas, to evaluate time perception and knowledge and the QMT, which we designed ourselves, to evaluate words expressing temporal notions. Our results show a significant impact of SLI and even of the type of SLI both on conceptual and linguistic dimensions of time, which appears moreover strongly correlated. Even though further large scale studies are needed to confirm these results, we already notice that children with SLI have real difficulties to build their mental and linguistic representations of time. This should consequently be taken into account when evaluating or rehabilitating children with SLI.
