Démence type Alzheimer : thérapie écosystémique de la communication, troubles du comportement et prescription de neuroleptiques

Abstract : Alzheimer patients suffer from behavioral disorders that may be disease or organic related, but also due to environmental reasons. So, how an ‘ecosystemic therapy of communication’ may influence behavioral disorders and neuroleptics prescription of institutionalized Alzheimer patients? A total of thirty-six AD patients were recruited and randomly dispatched into two related samples with the same level of impairment. One group and his caregivers has been five month monitored in order to enhance the communication environment of the patients. Compared results revealed that neither behavioral disorders nor neuroleptics prescription have been influenced by the therapy. However, unlike controls, communication skills of patients that benefited from the therapy improved qualitatively and quantitatively. Yet we couldn’t statistically prove in such a limited sample of persons and short time study that these results were due to the ‘ecosystemic therapy of communication’.
