La dysphagie en milieu hospitalier gériatrique : importance du partenariat orthophoniste - personnel soignant

Abstract : In geriatric hospitals, the management of deglutition disorders aims at enhancing the patients’ quality of life. This study offers a qualitative assessment of the impact of a comprehensive approach to the management of dysphagia carried out on a population of eight patients. In order to achieve this, two types of follow-up treatments were proposed and then compared. Four patients only received a speech therapy program while the others received a multidisciplinary program. By comparing the results, it was possible to highlight the benefits of a multidisciplinary program on food taking but also in terms of emotional well-being. Working closely with the nursing staff is indeed the key to the management of deglutition disorders in a population of elderly and hospitalized patients.
