La reconquête des traversées de bourgs : une identité à redéfinir

Abstract : Since the beginning of the automobile era in the 1950s, communication lines have been subjected to an important automobile traffic and a road functionalism. These spaces were organized to favor speed and fluidity of the automobile traffic. Village crossings have unfortunately kept a lot of marks from this past, which have brought difficulties of sharing between motorist and pedestrian. For this reason, these villages show a damaged image, and a bad living environment for its users and inhabitants. For about twenty years, these crossings have been deserted thanks to public transport development, the creation of road workarounds, and diversions. In this way, local authorities want to give a new identity to these spaces, the one of a comfortable, social and pleasant place to live, where the pedestrian goes back where he belongs. Sequencing and sharing this space are the main issues of this urban requalification. It will be essential that the landscaper works about an overall plan, in order to insert future village crossing layouts into the village and territory dynamics. For some time, a lot of design help tools are set up by organizations and associations for this type of project, and participative dialogue with inhabitants is getting increasingly common in the municipalities habits.
