La demande de vitamines en médecine générale : ressenti et réponses du médecin. Enquête qualitative auprès de médecins généralistes

Abstract : The demand for vitamins is common in family practice although taking multivitamins in addition to a diet is useless. We sought to understand the views of general practitioners (GPs) on this issue. On a base of a qualitative method study, we studied the feelings and responses doctor in front of this demand. Eleven semi-structured interviews were conducted with GPs. In this work several practices have been spotted: a link between the consumption of vitamins by a doctor himself and his propensity to prescribe, the use of placebo with a fluctuating consciousness and the awareness of pharmaceutical industry's power. Thus, this study allows better understanding of the issues of prescription vitamins and highlights the importance of the doctor-patient relationship. These elements can suggest ways to explore the use of placebo and the place of the GPs in a society of performance.
