Coopération, échanges et acquisition du lexique entre apprenants allophones au sein d’un projet pédagogique bilingue en classe de moyenne section de maternelle

Abstract : The Lycée Français Jules Verne of Johannesburg developed, in 2007, a bilingual education model where academic content is taught in French and English which attracts english speaking students to the school. Through consultation with the IEN and our educational advisor, a project was designed to run within this model for a period of 6 weeks to study how pupils perform in acquiring vocabulary in their respective second language. The background of the study was to extend the vocabulary of six students with 25 new words in both languages through a customized remedial course. The study followed both a quantitive approach whereby students were subjected to pre- and post tests, as well as a qualitive analysis of their progress throughout the execution of the remedial course content.
