Diversité de l'abricotier sauvage à l'échelle phénotypique de deux loci et du génome complet

Abstract : The most critical challenges in apricot production are the current uncontrolled spread of Plum Pox Virus (agent of the sharka disease) and the potential loss of production associated with insufficient winter chilling due to global warming. The only solution would be to develop new apricot varieties resistant to sharka and requiring lower winter cold treatment. Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) originates from Central Asia where it still exists in natural populations. This study consisted in the characterization of the wild apricot genetic diversity and its phylogenetic structure in order to estimate its potential in future breeding programs. To tackle these specific aims, we scored and analyzed bud-burst phenotypic variability as well as genetic variation at two loci of agronomical interest (SI self-incompatibility and PPVres loci). This work was completed by the analysis of 21 SSR and 2076 SNP markers distributed all over the apricot genome. Our results evidenced that bud-burst is dependent on the geographic origin of the apricot accessions and that the SI mutation associated with self-compatibility most probably appeared during domestication. We also showed a high frequency of favorable alleles linked to resistance to sharka and a significantly high, genome-wide, genetic diversity in the wild compartment. Natural populations clearly differentiate from the cultivated forms while displaying a low phylogenetic structure, which is an advantage for future association studies.
