État des lieux de la formation initiale théorique en psychosomatique des étudiants en médecine et des internes de médecine générale en France

Abstract : Objective: The general practitioner (GP) often faces complex clinical situations that would need a more global approach. In the psychosomatic approach, individual-care takes into account both psychological and physical dimensions. Putting this theory into practice, the GP needs a well-established education. The purpose of this work was to realize an international and national report on psychosomatic education. Methods: We performed a bibliographic report on psychosomatic education abroad and in France. We then performed a study in France to summarize psychosomatic education programs dedicated to students and general medicine residents during the 2013-2014 school year. For this purpose, all the French medical universities programs were studied through their websites (otherwise by email request), to measure the amount of psychosomatic approach lectures. Results: Psychosomatic education outside France is fully integrated into the education program, especially in Germany and in the United States. Concerning national results: for the students, 20% of French universities offer optional psychosomatic lectures and 43% for the general medicine residents. For them, 14% of universities offer Balint groups and 6% cover more than 10% of the program with psychosomatic education. Twenty percent of French universities offer a post-graduate psychosomatic education. Conclusions: Few French universities offer a real psychosomatic education as much for students as for general medicine residents. Many examples of different forms of teaching are available abroad to create a real psychosomatic education in France.
