Échelle de tri des urgences pédiatriques du CHU de Grenoble : un outil valide

Abstract : Objective. The objective of this study is to measure the validity of the pediatric triage scale used in Grenoble pediatric emergency department. Material and methods. It’s a single-center observational study, realized during 3 months, from january to march 2014. We measured the correlation between triage level and markers of severity that are commonly used in scientific litterature : proportion of hospitalization, proportion, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, lenght of stay, proportion of radiography realized, proportion of patients who left without being seen by a physician. We also evaluated the waiting time for each triage level. Results. 5318 children were included. Pool data demonstrated hospitalization proportions of 95,6%, 57,68%, 22,18% et 8,85% for patients in levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 (p<0,01). There was also a strong association between triage level and admission to the ICU, lenght of stay in the emergency department, proportion of radiography realized, proportion of children left without being seen, and waiting time. Conclusion. This pediatric triage scale is a valid triage tool as demonstrated by the strong association between triage level and multiple markers of severity.
