Évaluation de l’impact d’une réathlétisation supervisée après une lésion musculo-squelettique du membre inférieur : à propos d’une étude interventionnelle comparative menée au sein d’un régiment de l’Armée Française

Abstract : Introduction: sport-related musculoskeletal injuries of the lower extremity represent a public health issue because of their frequency and their physiological and economic impacts; a previous injury is an identified risk factor for new lesions. Materials and Methods: an interventional non-randomized controlled study, including patients of 121 RT (Montlhéry) suffering from musculoskeletal injuries of the lower limb, at non-surgical management, leading to a sport stoppage above 10 days. Patients from the "Reathletisation" group benefited of media sheets and sessions dedicated to their reathletisation; those from the "Contrôle" group managed their reathletisation in total autonomy. The primary endpoint was the occurrence of re-injury of the lower limb within 3 months following return to sport without restriction. Results: 63 patients were enrolled from April to December 2013; 8 were secondarily lost to follow. 8/32 patients from the "Reathletisation" group (25.0%) and 6/23 patients from the "Contrôle" group (26.1%) were re-injured (p=0.92). No significant difference was observed regarding the athletic abilities after the return –to-sport phase, the duration of this return-to-sport phase and the perceived quality of life. Discussion: a simple protocol governing the return to sport for soldiers suffering a lesion of the lower limb showed any benefit compared to a usual care. Increase the number of weekly sessions could potentially allow reaching a real benefit for secondary prevention.
