La représentation du Noir à travers l’enseignement de l’esclavage dans les manuels scolaires depuis 2002

Abstract : This study is about the representation of the Black in textbooks since 2002. Indeed, in 2002, a law introduces the teaching of the slavery and the slave trade in the instructions of the primary school. Then, analyses of history textbooks reveal a valorization of this subject since 2002, with the multiplication of documents and the use of authentic documents. The teacher’s aim is to develop the critical mind for his pupils and to sensitive them to this subject. Indeed, slavery is a part of the sensitive topics of History and broaches the question of the duty of memory which, sometimes, causes some problems to teachers. Moreover, school practices demonstrate that teachers attach a particular importance to this subject, creating a link with Citizenship. Therefore, slavery teaching at primary school can permit to fight to the development of stereotypes and discriminations.
