Évolution à long terme des enfants inclus dans le RéPPOP Midi-Pyrénées : analyse des réponses aux questionnaires des familles (151 patients) et des médecins (153 patients), 5 à 7 ans après la prise en charge initiale

Abstract : Introduction: Childhood obesity is a major public health concern because of its high prevalence and its significant consequences in adulthood. RéPPOP networks, first town-hospital childhood obesity-oriented networks, coordinate different partners to create a personalized local network around the child. This two year management focuses on diet, sport and way of life. Material and methods: Subjects were children <16 years with BMI>97th percentile, included in RéPPOP Midi-Pyrénées between 01/01/06 and 31/12/08. Children with missing BMI or postal address were excluded. A questionnaire was sent to families receiving socio-professional activity, life habits, current corpulence, and persistent follow-up for height problem. A questionnaire was sent to the physicians who had included these children, receiving BMI at last consultation in case of post RéPPOP follow-up. Results: 151 answers over 472 contacted patients: medium BMI Δ Z-! score was -1.12 (-5.45 à +2.56; SD 1.39), 6.9 years after inclusion, at mean age of 10. Management was respectively a success and an improvement in 44.4 and 30.5% of cases. 65.6% played sport, 68.2% had a balanced diet. 23.2% still had a medical and 13.2% nursing height follow-up. 41.7% were satisfied with RéPPOP network management. 26 practitioners over 143 answered, regarding 153 patients. 44 children still had a medical follow-up with their referent physician, with a medium BMI Δ Z-score of -0.57 (-3.3 à 1.2; SD 0.83), 5 years after inclusion. Conclusion: Obesity childhood management in RéPPOP Midi-Pyrénées showed a favorable evolution of corpulence 7 years after the end of the follow-up.
