Performances du système SWOT en hydrologie

Abstract : The SWOT mission, resulting of the collaboration between CNES and NASA and planned for 2020, will contribute to a great improvement in continental hydrology thanks to its instrument KaRIN, which is an interferometric SAR with low angle of incidence (0.6° to 4.1°). One of the main sources of error generated by this technology is a phenomenon called layover. The aim of this work is to avoid introducing layover as an artifact of the simulation while processing the data we will use to recreate the altitude of each element of the modeled scene. Various solutions are to be considered, especially regarding the chose DEMs and the slopes on the water surface provided in the water mask. The simulations outputs confirm how important this prior processing is before any simulation, in order to ensure the best interpretation possible of the restituted water heights, and to use the simulator in other fields.
