Inquiétudes, motivations et attentes des patients lorsqu'ils consultent en médecine générale pour fièvre de l'enfant de 3 mois à 5 ans

Abstract : Fever in children is a common reason for consulting a general practitionner and a source of parehtal anxiety. Although parental knowledge is insufficient, educational interventioins to reduse health care consumption are failures. Therefore, we conducted a study whose objective was to expose the concerns and expectations of parents when they visit a general practitionner for fever in childre aged 3 months to 5 years. We surveyed 212 parents of the Haute-Normandie region frome October 2014 to January 2015. 63% feel worrired for fever. Th symptoms that worry parents are a modification of behavior and poor temperature drop. 56,9% of parents prfer to give treatment and wait the return of their GP when fver occurs when he is away rather than see another professional. Durinf the consultation, 29,8% of parents expect a physical examination, 27, 9% want appointment quickly and 20.9% expect a diagnosis, 49% of parents want to avoid consulations for each febrile episode. So they call for the creation of a telephone line to answer their questions and be better trained about fever. For 54% of them, this training should teach them to recognoize the signs of severity that require viewing. Parents are worred for fever but about ordinary viral disease symptoms. Aware of this lack of knowledge, they expect from the general practitioner to be available quickly, looking for signs of severity and learn them to recognize these not to have to check systematically. Th general practitioner is a person of trust for parents who wait his return to reassure them. He is the most suitable to make educationnal interventions based on theory of planned Behaviour. To reduce their consumption of care for fever in childr, we must give to parents the informations they request and establish a permanently contactable telephone service. The general practitionner may reinforce these information by making behavioral interventions.
