L’ajustement protologique et langagier : une piste pour améliorer la compréhension d’un adolescent autiste ?

Abstract : Since 2008, several studies have explored how speech therapy could be applied to autism with the protological and language adjustment developed by L. Morel. With this technique speech pathologists take advantage of the patients’ cognitive interest which offers space for thinking, acting and speaking through experiments with objects. This permits them to feel safe and to reinforce their cognitive-linguistic knowledge. Our protocol consisted of 23 sessions filmed, given to a 12-year old autistic boy with pre- and post- treatment assessments. Our aim was to improve his overall understanding. We were able to observe and analyze his protological and language behaviors and to propose adjustments. The outcomes objectify that extending the scope of the patient’s interest leads to temporal, causal and space relationships and improves his contact to the world around him and his perception of others. Results also show that overall understanding was enhanced.
