Abstract : Objectives In December 2012, a mediatic outburst happened, about deep venous thrombosis risks associated with third and fourth generation oestroprogestative COCs. All medias intervened on the subject: each stating their opinion, sometimes cultivating fears towards this kind of contraceptive methods. The objective of this study targetting young women was to report on the state of contraceptive practices two years after the controversy about COCs, and to reveal the current apprehension of these young women of contraception. Methods It is a descriptive cross-sectional study operated from November 2014 to January 2015. The questionnaire was presented to young women aged 18 to 25, having already used contraception. A pre-test was done in October 2014. Results and conclusion The majority of women (82.9%) claimed to have heard about the controversy about COCs, 44.6% of them having first heard of it through media. However, 59.2% seem to have misunderstood the essence of the controversy. After the controversy, 56.9% of womeen kept their contraceptive method. Among the 36.7% of women who changed their methods, 69.6% were using third or fourth generation COCs and 7.2% before, and only 7.2% switched to third or fourth generation COCs. Currently, the use of COCs is still predominant, mainly through first and second generation COCs.
