Acquisition de références locales et évaluation de l'intérêt d'engrais verts comme méthode améliorante des sols sableux en maraîchage nantais : un bilan du projet PATHOSOL (2013-2015)

Abstract : Specialized and intensive crop production characterizes today’s vegetable production in Nantes’ area, leading to an increase of soilborne pathogens. As part of the regional project PATHOSOL (2013-2015), the CDDM evaluates green manuring as a soil improving practice; the aim is to indirectly control soilborne pathogens. Trials were carried out in growers’ fields in order to gain references about green manuring in local vegetable growing conditions (adapted species, optimization of crop management) but also to evaluate green manuring as a soil improving practice (incidence of green manures on the soil and the following vegetable crops’ health). Various green manure species (rye, oat, foxtail millet, millet, sorghum) were adapted to the constraints and goals of Nantes’ vegetable growers. On average, 33t/ha of fresh matter and 8t/ha of dry matter are produced by green manures. Results didn’t show any benefit from using green manures in order to act on soil properties. Likewise, control of soilborne pathogens by green manures couldn’t be demonstrated. These results were obtained after three years of monitoring; it would be interesting to carry on this study of green manuring incidence in the medium-to-long term.
