Abstract : Introduction: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is one of the most feared obstetric complications, which, in France, concerns 5-10% of women and is a leading cause of maternal death during pregnancy. It is considered avoidable in 80% of cases. According CNGOF the Syntocinon® is the frontline drug treatment in the management of PPH: it seemed that its use was not always optimal. The main objective of this study was to make an inventory of knowledge and midwives convenient areas for the use of oxytocin in the early management of PPH. Method: We performed a multicenter cross-sectional observational study on the various maternity hospitals of eastern Paris network. A questionnaire was made available online for all network Midwives of 24 December 2014 to 03 April 2015. The questionnaire includes 31 questions grouped into four items: demographic and business data midwives, epidemiological knowledge, pharmacological knowledge, clinical practice midwifery. We got 90 responses. Results: The physiological and pharmacological knowledge of midwives on oxytocin were reduced: Knowledge means scores of 3.3 / 8 and 1.2 / 3. Regarding the management of PPH, despite correct results, it was not always optimal as regards the administration of Syntocinon®. Conclusion: This study showed suboptimal use of Syntocinon® by midwives in the HPP. This medicine despite being the first line drug therapy in the treatment of PPH and therefore the stage at which practitioners are most frequently faced during the occurrence of this serious complication of peri partum.
