Le père et l’épreuve de la prématurité : étude du vécu lors de naissances après 30 semaines d’aménorrhées

Abstract : OBJECTIVE: Explore the psychological impact of preterm birth after 30 weeks of amenorrhoea among fathers and its impact on the setting of father-child relationships. METHOD: The study took place from December 2014 to April 2015 in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Trousseau Hospital. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted among preterm infants’ fathers, born after 30 weeks of amenorrhea. RESULTS: Preterm infants’ fathers experience signs of anxiety and stress. However, this study failed to demonstrate an increased risk of paternal depression in the post-partum period. Fathers describe impaired bonding and difficulties to interact with their child. The influence of the gestational age of the new-born infant must be consider in association with other data as fathers’ previous experiences or complications during child’s hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit.
