Experience of childbirth, and postpartum perpetuation of rites in France in women from sub-Saharan Africa

Résumé
Objective : The main objective of the study was to enable health professionals to discover the postpartum practices of their patients born in sub-Saharan Africa, but also upstream on the experience of childbirth in France compared to a previous birth in Africa.
Methods : a prospective, qualitative, multicenter based on 15 semi-structured interviews of birth from Africa Saharan conducted from August 2014 to January 2015.
Results : there's a better experience of childbirth in France by immigrant women, compared with a previous delivery in AfricExperience of childbirth, and postpartum perpetuation of rites in France in women from sub-Saharan Africa.

Post-partum rituals seem to perpetuate themselves completely in France among young immigrant women or women born here, but partially in recent immigrant women. These practices are not compatible with biomedicine.

But : L’objectif principal de l’étude était de permettre aux professionnels de santé de découvrir les pratiques du post-partum de leurs patientes originaire d’Afrique subsaharienne, mais aussi en amont sur le vécu de leur accouchement en France par rapport à un accouchement antérieur en Afrique.
Matériels et Méthodes : une étude prospective, qualitative, et multicentrique basée sur 15 entretiens semi-directifs d’accouchées originaires d’Afrique Subsaharienne menée d’Août 2014 à Janvier 2015.
Résultats : Il y a un meilleur vécu de l’accouchement en France chez les femmes immigrées, par rapport à un précédent accouchement en Afrique. Les rites du post-partum semblent se perpétuer complètement en France chez les femmes immigrées jeunes ou nées ici, mais partiellement chez les femmes récemment immigrées. Ces pratiques ne sont pas compatibles à la biomédecine.
Conclusion : Une étude prospective prenant en compte la subjectivité des accouchées originaires d’Afrique Subsaharienne, et l’objectivité de la biomédecine en France.
