Comment concilier des fonctions d'espaces publics de qualité avec celle d'axe de circulation structurant ? Les boulevards de Bordeaux

Abstract : Current preoccupations about motilities relate to the reduction of cars in favour of publics transports and bicycle and pedestrian transportation. City centres become more and more pedestrian with an important development of tramway and BHLS as well as a will of improvement of the living environment (vegetalisation of streets…). However, this tendency seems more difficult to apply on major road links. Bordeaux’s boulevards are a structuring highway on a metropolis scale and they question about conciliation with the function of qualitative public space. They concentrate many uses and so many issues and conflicts too. This report present a methodology to analyse and take into account the problems of the boulevards so they become a shared and lively area, with new uses. It consists of analysing historical, spatial and temporal rhythms of the boulevards in order to make planning propositions in rapport with the needs and the issues of the boulevards, both on a district and a metropolis scale. To conclude, with this work in sequences, density and temporalities, we propose scenarios of multifunctional, adjustable and progressive spaces which conciliate, on the boulevards, function of qualitative public open spaces with the one of major road link.
