Retour sur huit mois de salle nature à la maternité Port-Royal

Abstract : From the desire of women and initiated by care providers, projects like birth centers and physiological birth ward are coming to life all around France. In Paris, a natural birth room opened in Port-Royal’s maternity ward back in May 2014. Its purpose is to offer an accompaniment to all low risk patients willing to deliver without any epidural analgesia and according to obstetrical physiology. This “natural” delivery room is furnished to help accompany those women: large delivery bed, bathtub, balloon, suspension liana… We choose to study this project, seeking to both evaluate and improve it. We conduct a case-control study between 59 women who gave birth in this room from May the 9th to December the 31st 2014 and 118 women who gave birth in a “standard” delivery room. We gathered the tough of the case group women. These women’s profile is different by theirs socio-professional specifications and the course of their pregnancy. We observed less interventions and pathology during the labor among the case group, as well as better delivery outcomes; although there are no results impacting the perineal state or the late post-partum. Women are satisfied with the accompaniment in this “natural birth” room, they underline the importance of mobility during labor and suggest improvements regarding this room to be in accordance with their expectations.
