Comparaison de deux méthodes mécaniques de maturation cervicale : double ballonnet de Cook® et sonde de Foley

Abstract : Objective : Induction of labour is a common obstetric procedure and mecanical methods are increasingly used. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness and safety of induction of labour with a Foley catheter 30ml with induction with a double-balloon catheter (Cook®]. Methods : It was a descriptive, comparative, retrospective and monocentric study in La Pitié- Salpêtrière hospital from 2013/03/01 to 2013/07/31 and from 2014/02/01 to 2014/06/30. The patients included were women with a term singleton pregnancy in cephalic presentation, intact membranes, an unfavourable cervix, an indication for induction of labour, and no prior caesarean section. Results : 60 patients were induced with double-balloon catheter and 62 patients with Foley catheter. The frequency of vaginal birth is the same with the two methods (63% with double ballon catheter and 58% with Foley catheter), with the same safety. Conclusion : Foley catheter is at least as effective as the double-balloon catheter.
