Devenir des personnes âgées après un séjour en réanimation : mortalité et qualité de vie à 6 mois : étude DEPARQ

Abstract : Introduction: Data about quality of life in elderly patients after hospitalization in intensive care unit (ICU) are poor. Methods: We realized a single center prospective study, in the ICU of Fort de France (Martinique, French West Indies). The primary endpoint was the variation of quality of life at six months. Mortality was registered as a secondary endpoint. The inclusions criteria were age of 65 years or higher, ICU hospitalization for at least 48 hours, usual residence in Martinique, first hospitalization in ICU during the study. The quality of life was determined at entrance and at 6 months by the EuroQoL 5D-3L health questionnaire. Results: Ninety-nine patients were included. Median age was 74 +/-6 years. Median SAPS 2 was 71+/-20. Length of stay was 12 days (2; 90 days). We observed significant differences for 3 items (mobility, autonomy and daily activities). There was no difference between median VAS at entrance and 6 months (58+/-28 vs 67+/-27; p=0,54). Mortality was 37,4%, 53,5 % and 58,6% in ICU, 1 month, 6 months, respectively. Discussion : Our study shows that the quality of life was lower at 6 months in our ICU elderly population. This result is consistent with other studies
