Caractéristiques sociolinguistiques des patients rencontrés en dispensaire à Mayotte : analyse d'une prise en charge en contexte interculturel

Abstract : Introduction: The medicine in Mayotte makes mix itself doctor " mzumgu " (white subway) and patient not speaking French. A triangular relation doctor-patient-traducteur is established. The main objective was to describe the sociolinguistic characteristics of the patients consulting in health center. Material and methods: Descriptive epidemiological multicentrique Study in 5 hospitals references of the island in 2015. All the patients of more than 11 years were questioned. Quantitative and qualitative data were extracted from the results. Results : Two hundred and forty nine inclusive patients. Thirty four pourcent of the patients declared not to speak French. Fifty two pourcent needed a translator for the medical consultation. Sixty three pourcent declared to speak at least 3 languages. Ninety three pourcent of the declaring patients not to speak French wished a translator but also 29 % of the declaring patients to know how to speak French. Sixty eight pourcent of the patients any confused nationalities thought that they would be less good been looked after if there was a difference of language between the patient and the consulted doctor. Fifty eight pourcent of the patients not speaking French thought that the difference of language doctor-patient rang on the coverage as well as 74% of the declaring patients know how to speak French. Conclusion: the interpreter, considering the culturolinguistique context owes, beyond the simple literary translation of the words to stand out as cultural mediator for a cov! erage adapted by the troubles of our patients. The obstacles underlined by the patients were used to be a base in the analysis of the culturolinguistique barrier and allowed us to propose lines of thought with the aim of an improvement of the professional practices.
