Prévalence des escarres dans les établissements d’hébergement pour personnes âgées dépendantes en Aquitaine

Abstract : Background: The nursing home contain patients at high risk of developing pressure ulcers because there are old and dependent. No studies have evaluated the prevalence of pressure ulcers in nursing homes in Aquitaine. Objective: To determine the prevalence of pressure ulcers in nursing homes in Aquitaine. Materials and Method: This is a descriptive study of all nursing homes in Aquitaine from January to March 2014. A questionnary drawn up by the association Prevention, Education, Research and Bedsores Care (PERSE) was sent to all institutions to obtain the number, the stage and localisation of pressure ulcers and the human and material resources available. Results: The study involved 149 nursing homes including 9999 residents. The prevalence of pressure ulcers was 4,9%. Most pressure ulcers was stage 1 and the most common sites were sacrum and heels. In case of doubt on the assumption, the general practitioner was the most requested practitioner. The most used mattress were the shape memory mattress. Conclusion: This study shows that the prevalence of pressure ulcers in nursing homes in Aquitaine is one of the lowest found in literature. However, we must continue to develop the prevention, training of medical and paramedical as well as accessibility to therapeutic means.
