Étude des freins et leviers à la création d'une microfilière de luzerne Dombes-Val de Saône

Abstract : Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is a perennial forage legume which agronomic and zoo-technical values are well known, and plays an important role in the search for protein self-sufficiency in the French cattle industry, weakened by the importation costs. On the Dombes-Val de Saône territory, in the Ain department, a group of farmers is seeking to set up a local barn-dried alfalfa supply chain, but is facing difficulties. At the end of a feasibility study, in 2012-2013, the project did not proceed due to an insufficient offer. It resurfaces in 2015 on the initiative of the Chambre d’Agriculture de l’Ain and driven by the Lycée Agricole de Cibeins. This study is based on two lines of work: (1) an analysis of the gross margin required by the potential producers and of the financial stability of the project. (2) a field study including an opinion survey conducted amongst 21 cereal crops farmers. It assesses the driving and hindering factors for this economical, technical and sociological supply chain. This whole work aimed at critically evaluating the feasibility of this project, specifying the conditions for success and suggesting some levers that can be used by the farmers and their advisers from the Chamber of Agriculture.
