Utilisation du poids vif pour le monitoring des réserves corporelles et des matières sèches ingérées

Abstract : Precision livestock farming is growing rapidly, bringing to farmer a lot of information. Data collected are still being underused. Body reserves and feed intake are two phenotypes link to health and reproduction performance of dairy cows. The aim of this study is to improve the estimation of these phenotypes using daily body weight of cows. Body weight was modeled from different regressions. Feed intake of 3 previous days and the cumulative energy balance were used as explicative variable to represent respectively digestive contents and body reserves. The model gives a good prediction of the body weight with a low residual error (RMSE=11.7 kg). The weight of the digestive content seams to vary approximately from 3 kg by kg of dry matter intake. Use of the energy balance to represent variations of body reserves seams to lead to error in the body weight model due to variations of inter-individuals feed efficiency. Prediction of individually daily feed intake from variation of daily body weight and milk yield is quiet accurate (RMSE=3.3 kg MS). These estimations are still being fragile in early lactation and suffer of the cows’ individually efficiency. Body weight recorded every day, allows a quick evaluation of variation of food intake and body reserves, which can be useful in the heard and economy management of the farm.
