Évaluation des facteurs de risques psychosociaux chez les médecins généralistes libéraux : approche qualitative chez seize médecins de Gironde

Abstract : Background: General medical practice is experiencing a demographic and social crisis: primary care supply is decreasing while demand is increasing. General practitioners are implementing organizational strategies to cope with it. However, physicians are subjected to significant stress responsible for the resurgence of burn out and suicide within the profession. This work seeks to highlight the stress factors, or psychosocial risks, which affect the general practitioners in their work. Method: An exploratory and descriptive qualitative survey was carried out among sixteen general practitioners from Gironde, France. Data were collected using semi-structured audio-recorded interviews. Cross-sectional analysis was used. Results: The questioned physicians evoke many psychosocial risk factors at work: the workload, relationships with patients, heavy administrative tasks, dissatisfaction with pay and difficulty concerning work life balance are clearly evidenced. Relations with health authorities, uncertainty about the future of the profession, problems related to the organization's office occur in the background. However, all questioned physicians say they are globally satisfied with their job. Conclusion: General practitioners are affected by many psychosocial risks in their professional life. It is interesting to establish a model to measure these risks to prevent stress and its impact among these professionals.
